Woman reportedly spiked after being 'bought drink by man' on night out with friends in Manchester's Gay Village

A woman was reportedly spiked after being 'bought a drink by a man' when enjoying a night out with her friends in Manchester's Gay Village.

The incident, reported on July 29, was brought to light in a publicly shared letter from Ancoats and Beswick councillor Chris Northwood to Mayor Andy Burnham, to express concern about women's safety in the city and the way the incident was handled.

Greater Manchester Police have since confirmed they are investigating the alleged spiking, that was reported in a bar on Canal Street and that officers are currently supporting the victim. Coun Northwood penned a letter to Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, which was shared to Twitter, in which she said the night 'quickly soured' after her friend was bought a drink from a man which she believed had been spiked.

Following this, Coun Northwood said that the man was later seen being 'ejected by bouncers' from the bar and that her friend, who was staying on her sofa that night, started experiencing 'hallucinations' and was 'hyperventilating'.
