A tourist visiting Edinburgh says she was knocked out after her bike hit cracks in a path caused by overgrown tree roots that were 'first reported to the council months ago'.
Anna Railton, from Oxford, was rushed to hospital on Sunday following the crash on a path near the Innocent Railway tunnel in the capital. The 35-year-old councillor was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where medics discovered she had suffered a broken arm, as well as multiple scratches and cuts to her face, Edinburgh Live reports.
She furiously claims the tree root issue was first reported to the council four months ago leaving the area an 'accident waiting to happen.'Anna said: “At about 9pm I was cycling on my own on a mostly well-lit cycle path on my friend's bike, but I think this particular bit of tree root was in a bit of shady patch and I just hit it, lost control of my bike and crashed into quite a large nettle patch at the on the left-hand side."I definitely was knocked unconscious for a little bit, not hugely long.
I had a mild concussion - I remember crashing but not people phoning the ambulance. I scratched my face pretty badly and broke the top of my humerus."Her husband reported the protruding roots to online portal Fix My Street, which is then forwarded to Edinburgh Council.
