A cleaner who stole cash from a 92-year-old woman finally admitted her actions when she was shown CCTV footage in court. Alison Lavell, from Warrington, had denied stealing from the vulnerable pensioner.

But while the 59-year-old was on trial, video footage shown to the court led to her changing her plea to guilty. The court heard how on January 12, the woman's son had informed police that he believed Lavell was stealing money from his mum.

He believed that £500 had gone missing by the time the family became aware of her actions. The cash was supposed to be given to her carers, Cheshire Live reports. A second video, filmed a week later, showed Lavell again reaching into the purse and taking another £20. Lavell was arrested on suspicion of theft but denied any knowledge of the 92-year-old's money going missing.
