A healthcare company has been fined £140,000 over failings that led to the death of a 21-year-old patient at a hospital Francesca Whyatt, from Knutsford, managed to make her way unnoticed to the lounge area at The Priory Hospital in Roehampton, Wandsworth, south west London, while staff were distracted by an incident involving other patients.
While they dealt with that incident at the mental health unit on September 25, 2013, Francesca used an item of clothing as a ligature and took her own life.
She had been transferred from a local hospital to the Emerald Ward at The Priory, which has since closed and been replaced by another ward. The company that runs The Priory Hospital has been fined for failing to ensure the safety of patients on Emerald Ward, following an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), reports MyLondon.
