Millions of England fans will be hoping for victory as the Lionesses take on Spain in today's Women's World Cup final. It marks the first time England Women have reached the final of the competition and follows their triumphant win against host nation Australia in the semi-final on Wednesday.
Calls have been made for the government to announce an extra bank holiday if the Lionesses take home the trophy at today's final in Sydney, which kicks off at 11am BST.
But fans are likely to be disappointed as the government has so far poured cold water on the idea. Critics have hit out at the 'mean-spirited' government for dismissing the idea. In a statement, a Downing Street spokesperson said: “Winning the World Cup would be a massive moment for the country and make no mistake we’ll find the right way to celebrate.
