The inspirational story of a suicide survivor turned world record cyclist is set to be featured in a BBC documentary.‘Cycling Saved My Life’ tells the story of Livingston lad Josh Quigley who found a new lease of life through cycling after a failed suicide attempt in 2015 and airs on BBC One at 7.30pm on Friday, July 28.In the documentary, the 30-year-old recounts how it all started – when alcohol and depression pushed him to the brink before a talk with Sir Chris Hoy inspired him to get on a bike.Since then, Josh has cycled around the world and is a Guinness World Record holder.The documentary, produced by Studio Something and directed by Jordan Laird follows Josh as he attempts to qualify for next month’s 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow while working towards his ultimate ambition to become the first Scottish winner of the Tour de France.Speaking to the Courier, Josh said: “Cycling changed my life.

I was in a really bad place mentally and I became inspired by Sir Chris Hoy. I wanted to get my life back on track.“I set myself really big goals and there’s been plenty of times I’ve wanted to quit but I kept going.“It took five years, eight attempts but I finally cycled around the world.

And then after that I broke a world record.“The next chapter for me is trying to become an elite cyclist. I can obviously ride a bike and I’m fairly fit but can I make it at the top level as a cyclist?

That’s my goal but it’s something completely different to cycling around the world.”He added: “I’m comfortable with failing.
