An abandoned West Lothian car showroom is set to be demolished for a huge new Lidl supermarket.Lidl has officially submitted a planning application to West Lothian Council months after a public consultation was held with locals and flyers distributed in the area at Craigshill.A design statement submitted to council planning officers on behalf of Lidl states: “The proposed development comprises the demolition of the existing car showroom and erection of anew discount food store with amended access, car parking, landscaping and other associated works.“The proposed food store will include a sales area, a warehouse area and other ancillary floorspace.
Facilities at the store will include an in-store bakery, customer toilets, staff welfare facilities, associated office space and utility space.
Further details can be found in the accompanying plans.”The statement identifies the need for pedestrian access to the store, with only vehicular access in place to the former showroom via Almond Road.
Lidl say there is no pavement or footpaths connecting the site to Almond Road at present, but new openings would be created.The application will now be considered by planning officers. Don't miss the latest news from the West Lothian Courier.
