“We’re at crisis point”: Animal rescue centres forced to turn people away as six more kittens dumped in Manchester cemetery

Five kittens have been rescued after having been abandoned in a south Manchester cemetery earlier this week. The Society for Abandoned Animals, a local animal charity, was called to the scene at Southern Cemetery where they found five kittens aged no more than six weeks old, alongside another who sadly did not survive.

They had been notified by a member of the public who, having found one kitten after hearing it crying, said more began appearing, finding six in total. We have had animals dumped at Sale Water Park, on residential streets, handed into vets. We are finding more and more handed in, left and dumped.” People also bring animals in at their premises on Mosley Acre Farm in Stretford, bringing cats wrapped up in coats or towels, or simply leaving them at the gate.

Three kittens were found at Sale Water Park in June in a taped up cardboard box. Debbie said it looked like the cemetery kittens had simply been released into the grounds and had been there for at least a day.
