Neighbours on a quiet east Manchester estate have recalled the desperate attempts made to save a man who was 'hit by his own car'.

Police believe 57-year-old Chris Hanley died on Olympic Street, in Beswick, after trying to stop his Land Rover being stolen on Saturday morning (March 16).

Emergency services rushed out to the estate, in the shadow of Sportcity, where he was sadly pronounced dead at around 10.54am.

A murder investigation is underway, with police continuing door-to-door enquiries this afternoon (Monday). One Olympic Street resident told the Manchester Evening News she found the victim injured 'on the floor' while two people tried to save him. "I was just coming back home," she said.
