Police officer thrown onto bonnet of stolen car in hit-and-run

A police officer was thrown onto the bonnet of a stolen car after the driver deliberately drove into him during a hit and run in Blackburn.

Police are appealing for witnesses and footage after the incident, which took place this morning (April 3). At 7.57pm yesterday (April 2), police were called to New Chapel Street following reports a black Volkswagen Polo mobility car - registration PF73FJX - had been stolen sometime between March 26 and April 2. READ MORE: Man jailed after brutal killing of sister's ex who turned up uninvited in her back garden As part of the investigation into the car theft, an officer was carrying out enquiries in the Mill Hill area of Blackburn this morning.

Having spotted the car parked in Fred Pickering Place at 11.53am, the officer went to the front of the vehicle to speak to the driver.

The car was then deliberately driven at the officer, causing him to be flung onto the bonnet and then to the ground, police said.
