"We deserve it": Didsbury residents block takeaway serving booze over noise and urination fears

Didsbury residents have managed to block a takeaway’s bid to serve alcohol after arguing they ‘deserve’ to be free of noise and public urination.

The Souvlaki, ‘a Greek Restaurant and takeaway’ on School Lane, bid for permission to serve booze ‘both on and off the premises’ from 12 noon to 11pm every day.

It already had permission to open and serve food until 11pm daily. But School Lane locals objected to the proposals — with three turning up to the Manchester City Council licensing meeting to attempt to stop the proposals. It interferes with my sleep if it’s going to be open very late. “It spoils the whole peace of the area. I would like them to close earlier and have not much noise, because we deserve it.” She was joined by fellow neighbour Gerard Curran, who argued serving alcohol ‘will attract more drinkers’. “There’s a litany of other places for drinking and we do not need one on School Lane which is a quiet suburban street,” he added. “I do not think there’s a clamour for it.
