Warning as Mancunian Way closed all weekend

The Mancunian Way, one of Manchester's best known and busiest commuter routes, will close temporarily over the weekend for an annual safety inspection.

Diversions will be in place and a warning has been issued to motorists ahead of the closure. The two-mile elevated motorway is officially made up of the A57(M) and the A635(M) flyover section and was opened to the public by then Prime Minister Harold Wilson on May 5, 1967. It will be closed in full between Chester Road and Fairfield Street between 5am on Saturday - July 20 - and 7pm on Sunday, July 21.

The council said a full closure was necessary to allow engineers to carry out relevant checks and to guarantee their safety at work.
