manchestereveningnews.co.ukA drink-fuelled driver mowed down a 10-year-old girl as she walked to the chippy with her friend. Mark Fensome, 43, had been out drinking with work colleagues shortly before his Land Rover ploughed into Lily Morris, 10, in Coleridge Road, Oldham, days before Christmas.
The schoolgirl suffered a traumatic brain injury and died in hospital. Her 12-year-old friend was also severely injured after being struck by the car when it mounted the kerb on the wrong side of the road.
After crashing into the two girls, Fensome drove away from the scene. Join our WhatsAp p Top Stories and Breaking News group by clicking this link. He was arrested at his home nearby minutes later and was said to be 'clearly intoxicated' and unsteady on his feet.
At Minshull Street Crown Court today (Friday), Fensome was jailed for nine years. He had previously pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
