Visitors to popular Scots beach warned not to swim or paddle after 'pollution incident'
dailyrecord.co.ukLocals have been urged not to swim or paddle in the sea at a popular Scots beach due to a 'pollution incident'.Scottish Water has reported an ongoing incident following a waste pump malfunction at its pumping station on MacDonald Road in Edinburgh close to Portobello Beach.
As a result, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has warned visitors not to enter the water at the beach as it could be contaminated with waste.Scottish Water reported the incident on Thursday, July 13, and SEPA's most recent water quality report marked the water as a pollution incident at Portobello Central and West.Officers from the agency are working throughout the weekend to solve the problem with disruption expected to last until Monday, Edinburgh Live reports.
A statement on Scottish Water's website read: "Scottish Water is responding to a pump failure at our wastewater pumping station in McDonald Road, Broughton. "Our teams are currently working to resolve the issue and will be installing temporary pumps and generators over Friday night and the weekend. "The generators are planned to be switched on, on Saturday.
We will work to reduce the noise impact of this work but expect there to be some disruption over the weekend."We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
