Two spooky Scottish destinations named among 'most haunted' to visit this Halloween

New research has revealed five of the "most haunted" destinations in the UK ahead of Halloween, and two Scottish spots are included.With the countdown to October 31 now truly on, people across the country will be thinking of ways to celebrate the spooky holiday.

While a trip to one of Scotland's many pumpkin patches is a great Halloween activity to enjoy with the family, there are also plenty of supposedly haunted sites for those after something a bit more spine-tingling.Experts at holidaycottages.co.uk have put together a list of the top locations for thrill-seekers this October, with Edinburgh and Glencoe among those named.Specifically, Mary King's Close in the Scottish capital was singled out as being "well known for its variety of ghostly phenomena", with visitors reporting seeing "apparitions of those that lived and died there".

The close, which is situated beneath the Edinburgh City Chambers on the Royal Mile in the city's historic Old Town area, has been the site of numerous reported hauntings dating back centuries.According to the experts, among the most famous ghost sightings at Mary King's Close occurred when a visiting medium claimed to see a little girl crying in the corner of a room.

The apparition spoke about a doll she had lost, and ever then since visitors to the close have left behind dolls and gifts for her.Meanwhile, the study named Glencoe as a "truly electrifying adventure" for Scots this Halloween, with all manner of paranormal activity being reported by visitors over the years. Glencoe Village is based on the site of the horrific 1692 Massacre of Glencoe, where around 30 members of Clan MacDonald of Glencoe were murdered by Scottish Government forces.
