New 'affordable' flats coming to Oldham named in honour of well-known figure

A new development of 'affordable' living is in store for Oldham - and will be named after a well-known figure in the town. The three-storey senior living block is being built on Ashton Road West, on the site of the old Failsworth Mill.

The Victorian cotton mill was demolished in 2014 and bordered the Rochdale Canal. The 35,000 square-foot apartment block will house 37 one-bed flats and 14 two-bed homes.

Amenities will include a residents' lounge, guest suite, mobility scooter store and a communal garden. It has now been revealed the development will be named after Sydney Grange.

He's is a popular historical figure in the area, having served as managing director of the British heritage brand, Failsworth Hats where he gave 53 years of 'loyal and devoted service'.
