dailyrecord.co.ukJust over one-third of eligible voters went to the polls to cast their ballots in the crunch Rutherglen & Hamilton West by-election.The turnout in the Westminster ballot was 37.19 per cent – with a total of 30,351 votes cast by the electorate of 82,104 people.Count officials announced the figure just after midnight as they completed the initial verification stage of the process – before moving on to the process of counting the number cast for each candidate.The turnout in the election contrasts with the 66.5 per cent at the 2019 general election, and is by far the lowest in the six polls to have taken place since the current Rutherglen & Hamilton West was created in 2005.
