Traffic disruption expected next month as Glencarse overbridge works begin

Traffic management will be in place on the A90 at Glencarse for long-awaited works to the damaged overbridge to begin – almost 18 months since it was struck by a digger.Disruption on the main road between Perth and Dundee is expected during the eight-week works to repair the damage caused in March last year.The overbridge suffered significant structural damage when struck by a vehicle in March 2023.Perth-bound traffic was restricted to one lane and a 50mph speed limit after the flyover was struck by a digger – the same day Scotland fans were travelling to Hampden to see a historic win over Spain.Transport infrastructure company Amey said last week that they are in the final stages of a procurement process to obtain the specialist resources required to carry out the work.Specialist testing and investigation works and temporary repairs were carried out on the bridge in November last year to inform permanent repairs on restoring the bridge’s integrity after the discovery of bats - a protected species - further delayed works to fix the bridge – which has been struck three times.There are ongoing restrictions above the structure, but the bridge remains safe for use until permanent repairs are undertaken.Subject to the outcome of the tender process, Amey said works are expected to start in September and to take in around eight weeks.During that time temporary traffic management arrangements will be put in placeThe overbridge will remain open and continue to operate under temporary traffic lights.An Amey spokesperson said: “There will be a requirement for some form of traffic management to allow the work to be carried out safely.“The specific detail of this will only be confirmed following the conclusion of the procurement
