Tony Docherty has praised Dundee’s “cultural architects” for laying the foundations for success at Dens.The Dark Blues have been the Premiership surprise package this season and are sixth in the table, five points in front of tomorrow’s opponents Hibs and just three behind St Mirren with a game in hand.
Dundee have a relatively young squad but Docherty has highlighted the importance of a core of older players who help set standards at the club and promote a culture of excellence.
The Dens gaffer said: “The senior pros play a huge role in what we do and that was always on my agenda when I first came into the club.“I knew I was inheriting a lot of young, talented football players but bringing in Trevor Carson, Joe Shaughnessy and Ricki Lamie, with Lee Ashcroft and Jordan McGhee already here, was important.
I refer to them as cultural architects. They promote the culture within the club that we are trying to put forward.“I know the message we are promoting in the dressing-room is carried on outside those doors through those senior pros.
