The private funeral service for The Script's Mark Sheehan was held in Dublin last weekend, as the late musician's friends and family paid their respects following his death, it has been reported.

Mark tragically passed away aged 46 on Friday, 14 April, after suffering from a brief undisclosed illness. Sharing the sad news of his death earlier this year the Irish band shared a statement to their Instagram page, which read: "Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. "The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time." A private funeral for the late musician was held last weekend Dublin's St James’s Catholic Church, on James Street.

One of the attendees told Irish publication Sunday World: "It was a very private ceremony which started at 3.30pm last Saturday. "Mark grew up on James‘s Street and most of his family and many of his friends are from that area of the Liberties, with a good number of them attending the service." Mark is survived by his wife Rina Sheehan, whom he married in 2005, and the couple's three children Cameron, Avery, and Lil.

Following Mark's death, The Script's bassist Ben Sargeant shared a heartbreaking tribute to his late friend, with whom had been performing since 2001.
