The Oldest Members of Congress Revealed: 19 of 535 Senators & Congresspeople Are Over 80, With One Surpassing 90

You need to be a minimum of 25 years old to become a member of Congress in the United States. However, there is no maximum age, and once you’re elected there are no term limits.

Because of that, many members of the Senate and House of Representatives have been serving for years and are older. In fact, 19 of the 535 members of Congress across both bodies are older than 80, and The Washington Post reported that Congress is getting progressively older on average.

In 2023, the youngest member of Congress is Representative Maxwell Frost. He’s 64 years younger than the oldest member.
