Tesco slashes prices of own-brand bread and butter following Sainsbury's cost cut

Tesco has followed followed supermarket giant Sainsbury's in slashing the price of its own-brand bread and butter.The UK's biggest supermarket has reduced the cost of their most popular bread, the Toastie white bread, by 10p from 85p to 75p.

Tesco has also slashed 10p from their own-brand white, wholemeal medium and wholemeal thick 800g with the loads now costing 75p.

Shoppers will also notice the price of the supermarket's own-brand 250g blocks of salted and unsalted butter has fallen from £1.99 to £1.89.

Tesco explained that it will continue to work closely with suppliers to manage any further volatility.Following the reduction, Tesco group chief product officer Ashwin Prasad said: “As families continue to watch their weekly spend and budget carefully, we’re pleased to be able to pass on price reductions where we can, and to help with everyday essentials like bread and butter.” However, the grocer stated that prices may vary in its Express stores.
