A young athlete from Perthshire has been named among the world’s strongest teens after making his debut at a major competition earlier this month.Scott McNamara pitted his strength against 15 of the most powerful youths at the World’s Strongest Under-23 event on November 4.The 18-year-old from Inchture faced competitors many years his senior in five pulsating events at The Foundry Gym in Paisley: the log press (100kg); deadlift (300kg); hammer hold (20kg); stone shield carry (115kg); and atlas stone lift (120kg).Competing in the 19 and younger bracket, Scott demonstrated his muscle against strength athletes from countries including Mexico, the US, Germany and Norway.Growing up in Qatar Scott was a regular weightlifter, mostly to improve his performances as a rugby player. When lockdown hit in 2020 his training continued but his passion to become a professional strongman came to the fore.Speaking to the PA after the event, he said: “It was mainly the week before the competition where the nerves set in - but most people just reminded me that I did everything I could to prepare.“For the log press I surprised myself.
