Teenage boy arrested in connection with alleged attack of Raith Rovers fan

Police investigating the alleged assault of a young Raith Rovers fan have arrested a teenage boy. The 18-year-old was rushed to hospital shortly after the final whistle of the Dunfermline Athletic home game on Tuesday, January 2.Both clubs have confirmed they are investigating the incident with support being provided to the young supporter.

Police Scotland have now confirmed that a 17-year-old youth has been arrested. Inspector Neil McGurk said: “A 17-year-old male youth has been arrested in connection with the assault of an 18-year-old man which happened in Dunfermline around 5.30pm on Tuesday, 2 January, 2024 following the Dunfermline Athletic v Raith Rovers football fixture.“Enquiries are ongoing to trace others involved.” The shocking incident has drawn support for the injured young man from footballers and fellow fans across the country.

Rovers goalie Kevin Dąbrowski led the charge on social media, writing: “This is not what football is about, people like this ruin what football truly means.

This boy is normally the supporter but he is the one who needs support from Raith and everyone.Pars midfielder Chris Hamilton added: “Not what our club’s about, disappointing to see.
