Stirling Carpetright store closes after firm plunges in to administration

A Stirling flooring retailer has closed with all workers at the location looking set to be made redundant after it plunged into administration.Carpetright, based in Springkerse Retail Park, is one of 220 stores to close despite a rescue deal being agreed following the appointment of administrators.Just four of the retailer’s Scottish outlets will remain open – in Bishopbriggs, Dumbarton, Dumfries and Edinburgh Hermiston Gait – with the remainder closing down.Rival flooring company Tapi Carpets and Floors Limited has rescued the Carpetright brand, intellectual properties and 54 stores following the administration of Carpetright Ltd.That will save the jobs of over 300 people, however more than 1000 jobs at Carpetright’s other stores not included in the deal look set to be axed.In an update this week, Tapi said: “We are desperately sad not to have been able to save more of the business and customer orders.

However, as we looked into the details of the situation, we quickly established that saving the entire business was unviable.“Carpetright has been materially loss making for a number of years, and it has significant debt held by the owner.

We believe that we were the only offer that the administrator received that saved a large number of roles. We were also mindful of how the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) may view a larger deal.” Click here for more news and sport from the Stirling area.
