A man has been charged in connection with the alleged stabbing of a 21-year-old woman in Stirling. The alleged attack occurred at around 8.20pm on Saturday night in the town's King Street..The woman was rushed to Forth Valley Royal Hospital for treatment to an alleged stab wound, with her injury described as "non-life threatening".The 29-year-old was later arrested.

Police Scotland confirmed this evening that he had been charged and he will appear at Stirling Sheriff Court on Monday, August 5.In an unusual move, cops confirmed today that the man was described as white and local to Stirling.

This appears to be in a bid to quash social media rumours that appeared on Saturday that there had been three stabbings by a man believed to be Muslim. This narrative, described by cops as "false", gained huge traction online after being shared by Tommy Robinson, founder of the EDL (English Defence League). The claim comes as riots have rocked UK cities this week amidst tensions stirred by the recent tragic murders of three girls in Southport, where Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, were killed.

Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, aged 17, has been charged with the murder of the youngsters.Chief Inspector Liam Harman said: “We fully appreciate the impact this incident has had in the local community and appreciate the support provided to our investigation.
