Stirling man appears in court charged with attempted murder after city centre stabbing

A Scottish man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed in Stirling at the weekend.Callum Fisher, from Stirling, appeared before Stirling Sheriff Court on Monday following the incident on the town’s King Street on Saturday night.The 29-year-old was also charged with assault to severe injury and the possession of a bladed article in public.He made no plea or declaration while the case was submitted for further examination.The woman, 21, was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital.

Police described her injury as “non-life threatening”.Fisher was remanded in custody and is expected to reappear in the dock within the next eight days.It comes after far-right activist Tommy Robinson wrongly named the accused as being an “alleged Muslim” and stated three people had been attacked.The false narrative, which was shared online by the founder of the EDL (English Defence League), was quickly quashed by police.Robinson’s incorrect claim was posted online as far-right riots gripped cities across the UK at the weekend.Violence swept through the streets of Hull, Rotherham, Bolton, Middlesbrough and Belfast amid growing tensions following the murders of three girls in Southport last week.Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, tragically died following a mass stabbing at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on Monday, July 29.
