Stewartry Sirens began their Sarah Beaney Cup campaign with a win at Ayr Ladies. The Sirens won Tennent’s National League Division One with a perfect record and look set to carry that form into the cup.

The game kicked off in good conditions for a fast flowing game of rugby. For the first 20 minutes neither side could manage to get on top with both teams working really hard in defence.

The first Sirens try came after a fine kick from Lisa Ritchie finding touch from a penalty. From the resulting line out a strong driving maul edged the Sirens towards the try line and the ball made its way to centre Phaedra Snailham who managed to free her arms out of the tackle to score.

Her second of the day followed shortly after when a trademark mazy run saw her run from nearly half way to score under the posts with Ritchie adding the conversion.
