Lily Tomlin recalls Queen Elizabeth II performance, staff telling her 'Don’t you dare' after 'funny' idea
foxnews.comLily Tomlin has performed for royalty and is telling the tale. During a recent appearance on "The Late Late Show with James Corden," Tomlin remembered traveling to England to perform for Queen Elizabeth II at an event for the Olympics in 1971.
She was there alongside performers Liza Minnelli and the Osmond family. "I did Edith Ann and Ernestine," Tomlin said, referencing two iconic characters she's created. "I thought it would be very funny.
I thought the queen would enjoy if Edith said, ‘I’m going to England to see Queen Elizabeth [and make a face], and they said, ‘Don’t you dare, don't you dare.'" "I thought she would've, and I thought she would have had a catcher's mitt, and she'd be waving to the crowd.
I bet we could have had fun. I was cut off sort of right here," she added, pointing to her knees. Tomlin was on the show to promote her new movie with her longtime friend Jane Fonda, "Moving On." In the film, the two play former friends who reunite after years of estrangement at the funeral of one of their best friends.They form a plan to get revenge on their friend's husband who messed with their relationship many years ago.
