South Park producers address show backlash and being sued by celebrities

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have spoken out on the legal issues surrounding their show as the controversy amid their jibes at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle rages on.The pair admit they have previously written episodes with the intention of "getting sued," according to reports by The Mirror.They explained how they believe the majority of backlash to some of their more controversial episodes often comes from those who consider themselves right-wing politically and the writers often like to push boundaries with the scripts and characters.The Comedy Central cartoon has caused waves across social media once again this month, with the hit series poking fun at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.Earlier this week the former working royal couple broke their silence amongst a barrage of royal expert opinions and it is believed they are pursuing legal action over the groundbreaking episode despite a spokesperson for the couple slamming the rumours as "nonsense." Trey and Matt admitted during a chat on this week's episode of Basic!, a podcast series looking back on the days of basic cable TV, that they often purposely encourage the controversy of the show.

The duo told the podcast hosts Doug Herzog and Jen Chaney that when it comes to backlash over the years, "there are so many [moments] we can't even remember.""It was all coming from the right, we were considered counter culture," they explain during the interview. "The Catholic League are always on our arse - it kind of always came from that side."The pair then spoke of South Park's infamous episodes centred around Tom Cruise and his controversial faith in Scientology, titled Trapped in the Closet and Coming Out of the Closet.
