An SNP MP has blasted David Cameron for ignoring his letter about a Scots man who is being detained in India. Martin Docherty-Hughes said he is yet to receive a response from the Foreign Secretary about Jagtar Singh Johal despite writing to him two months ago.

The West Dunbartonshire MP was speaking in the House of Commons on Wednesday afternoon.He had requested a meeting with Cameron about Johal's case.

Dumbarton man Johal was in Punjab in northern India for his wedding in 2017 when his family said he was arrested and bundled into an unmarked car.

He said he has been tortured, including through electric shocks, and faces the death penalty over his activism and campaigning for Sikh human rights.His brother Gurpreet said that he hoped Cameron would make the difference when he became Foreign Secretary in November.Docherty-Hughes questioned why the former tory Prime Minister had taken so long to get back to him.He told the Commons: "Jagtar Singh Johal will be entering this year his seventh year in arbitrary detention in India."In that time both he, his family, and I have lost count of the number of foreign secretaries who run the department."And with that, I must say, in recent weeks I have never seen such an utter disregard or most likely the most important consular case on the Foreign Secretary's desk."Yesterday at the Foreign Affairs Committee...
