Powers to expand Greater Manchester Police powers to stop and search individuals in some parts of the city have been extended and expanded, following an altercation outside a shop yesterday (January 22).

After the altercation, one teenager was arrested. Officers in Failsworth have been given a further 24 hours to stop and search people in the area following the incident, which took place on Ashton Road West between two groups that police say are known to each other.

At least one member of the rival groups was said to be carrying a knife. These powers have this evening (January 23) been expanded to Limeside while police investigations into the matter continue.

The Section 60 powers allow officers to stop and search any individual in these areas, without first having reasonable grounds to stop them. Try MEN Premium now for FREE...
