Scottish Labour will back a ceasefire next week when MSPs debate the spiralling conflict in the Middle East.Party leader Anas Sarwar’s position will pile further pressure on UK leader Keir Starmer who has stopped short of using the word.Starmer is facing a rebellion from his front bench this evening as some of his MPs want to back a ceasefire in the bloody war between Hamas and Israel.Supporters of a ceasefire are hugely critical of the civilian deaths caused by Israeli military action.Sarwar has clashed with Starmer on a ceasefire and his group will take a different position to Starmer at Holyrood on Tuesday. In an interview with Bauer Media, he said: “I support a ceasefire.”He confirmed his MSPs would be "voting in line" with the position he set out.Sarwar said he wanted an end to rockets going in and out of Gaza, the release of hostages held by terror group Hamas and a "pathway" to a peace process. He also said the withholding of food and electricity from Gaza, as well as the targeting of hospitals, was a "clear" breach of international law.The Glasgow MSP was upset with Starmer over a radio interview on October 11 in which he suggested Israel had the “right” to withhold water and supplies from Gaza after the Hamas terror attack. He was further incensed when it took Starmer’s office days to clarify this was not his position.Sarwar recently said Starmer's words had caused "hurt" and required a "repair job".
