Jackie Baillie has claimed the SNP is playing "Punch and Judy politics" over its attempt to force a Commons vote on a ceasefire in Gaza. The Scottish Labour Deputy Leader said the current situation was "too complex and serious" for "game playing".

The SNP submitted an amendment to the King's Speech last week which says that MPs "call on the Government to join with the international community in urgently pressing all parties to agree to an immediate ceasefire." The amendment is likely to go to a vote tomorrow as the SNP is the third largest party in the Commons. It puts Labour in a difficult position because the party has been split over the issue.UK Labour leader has called for "humanitarian pauses".

This contrasts with Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar who last month said there should be "a ceasefire right now".Baillie was asked in an interview with BBC's Good Morning Scotland which position the two Scottish Labour MPs would back. She said: “Well, our position in Scotland has been very clear, Anas Sarwar backs a ceasefire, but the focus should be on what will help the people in Palestine and Israel just now.“I think the situation is much too important for the kind of Punch and Judy politics we've been seeing.“There's not a hierarchy on whose lives are more important.

I don't want to see any more Israelis killed.“I don't want to see any more Palestinians killed. I absolutely want the fighting to stop.
