A huge Royal Air force plane was spotted soaring over Scots cities. The massive long-haul military aircraft could be seen for miles, as it took part in "essential routine training" exercise on Friday night over Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Plane spotters caught a glimpse of the movements of the Globemaster C-17 as it flew overhead in clear skies, Edinburgh Live reports.
The aircraft was made by Boeing and is a long-range, heavy-lift strategic transport aircraft that can operate close to a potential area of operations for combat, peacekeeping or humanitarian missions worldwide, according to the RAF website. In 2022, a Globemaster carried the body of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II from Edinburgh to RAF Northolt ahead of the sovereign’s state funeral in London.
It was originally developed for the United States Air Force.Taking to X to alert plane spotters, RAF Brize Norton posted: "This afternoon, one of our Globemaster (C-17) aircraft is expected to be operating in the vicinity of Glasgow and Edinburgh, whilst engaged in essential routine training."
