Scots footballer fighting for life after being hit by pick-up truck

A 24-year-old Scottish footballer is in critical condition after being hit by pick-up truck on a Dumfries-shire street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Dean Watson was walking along the B7076 near Ecclefechan when he was struck by a black Mitsubishi L200 at around 1.30am. The Dalbeattie Star footballer was rushed to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary before being transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Medical staff describe his condition as critical but stable. His club Dalbeattie Star have sent their best wishes to him and urged him to "keep fighting".In a post on X, formerly Twitter, they wrote: "Everyone at Dalbeattie Star would like to pass our best wishes to current player, Dean Watson, who was involved in a serious traffic incident near Ecclefechan in the early hours of this morning.

Keep fighting Deano."Dean's former club, SPFL League One side Queen of the South, also sent their best wishes to the midfielder.
