The stunt backfires tremendously after concert-goers fail to catch the crowd surfer, causing them to hit the ground hard. Shortly thereafter, however, Twitter’s community notes revealed that the person was not actually Sam Smith, but some unidentified reveler who dove into the crowd at a Vanilla Ice concert in Oregon on Saturday.
Unfortunately, the fact-check came too little too late. By that time, the pop star was the talk of Twitter as gawkers disseminated this urban legend of the fall.
