Trafford Retail Park has issued a statement after shoppers got stuck for two hours trying to escape the busy car park. It was reported on Sunday (August 6) that some shoppers 'abandoned their cars' as other fed up motorists left their vehicles in the queues and walked to McDonald's or KFC.

Pictures taken from Trafford Retail Park, beside Barton Road, showed scores of vehicles snaking around the car park in scenes that one shopper likened to being 'worse than Christmas'. A spokesperson for Trafford Retail Park commented: “We are aware and can sympathise with our customers who had challenges exiting Trafford Retail Park this weekend. "We understand this was due to traffic congestion on Barton Road in both directions leading to the motorway slip road." A number of videos and posts about the chaos were shared to social media on Sunday, including by Clare Jemison, who had visited Sports Direct with her daughter, 10, who has ADHD.

She called the situation 'horrendous' and said she would not be returning to the shopping park again. "It took me 25 minutes just to get out of the parking space.
