A significant investment project to help alleviate sewer flooding in Stewarton begins later this month.Properties along David Dale Avenue have historically been affected by internal and external flooding during periods of heavy rain.Georgina Reid, Scottish Water’s corporate affairs regional manager in the west said ahead of work getting underway on on Monday, May 22: “Sewer flooding can cause a great deal of distress for communities and so we are delighted to see the first phase of these works come to fruition following many months of planning, and the completion of preparatory works at the end of last summer.”Temporary road traffic management has been agreed upon with East Ayrshire Council and will be in place from Monday, May 22 until around mid-July.During this time, a short section of David Dale Avenue near the junction of Fleming Drive will be closed to traffic.A signed diversion will be in place via Fleming Drive, Morton Road and Crusader Crescent.

However, access to properties on David Dale Avenue will be maintained and the footpath will be open. The temporary over-pumping which has been in place since last year will be removed once the new waste water pipes have been installed.Ms Reid added: “Plans are also being finalised for phase two of this project which will help address external flooding experienced by some customers in the vicinity of Lainshaw Primary School.

More information will be communicated about phase two when it is possible to do so.”“Meantime, during the first phase, there might be occasions when access to some of the paths in Lainshaw Woods is impacted but this is only expected for short spells.
