The latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show at the end of November 2022, there were 410,637 people across Great Britain receiving Attendance Allowance support for arthritis, making it the most-claimed for health condition by people over State Pension age.
Nearly 37,000 older people in Scotland are receiving either £68.10 or £101.75 each week in extra financial support along with more than 1,100 living abroad.
The data also revealed 62 per cent of Attendance Allowance claimants in Scotland are female and 38 per cent are male. Of those receiving payments for the benefit delivered by the DWP, some 59 per cent are over 80.
Arthritis is a common condition that causes pain or inflammation in a joint and accounts for almost one-third of all the 1.4million claims for Attendance Allowance.
