Families in Scotland could be due more than £209 each month for every child under the age of 16 from next month due to the annual uprating of benefits.

Scottish Child Payment is a devolved benefit, not available south of the border, and is currently worth £25 each week, but will rise to £26.70 in April.

The payments are made every four weeks, which means it is currently worth £100 each pay period and will rise to £106.80 after the uprating has been applied.

Similarly, Child Benefit, which is administered by Hm Revenue and Customs (HMRC), is a separate UK-wide benefit that currently pays £24 for the eldest or only child and will rise to £25.60 in April - it’s also paid every four weeks, amounting to £96 (£102.40 from April).Families claiming both benefits for children under 16 will see their four-weekly payments rise from £196 to £209.20.
