New plan for Ayrshire 'ghost' indoor market 12 years after closure

A former indoor market which has lain empty in Irvine town centre for almost 12 years could reopen as a storage facility.The Bank Street market hall, a mecca for local traders for three decades before closing in 2011, is the subject of a new planning application to North Ayrshire Council.Businesses Kurunveer Sangha, of Evergreen Storage Solutions, is seeking approval for a change of use to 'self-storage facilities.'Documents lodged with the local authority show a floor plan for the building, which can be accessed from both Bank Street and East Road.No other information is available at this stage.
