Neighbours slam 24-hour booze sales bid at Asda petrol station store

Plans for 24-hour booze sales from a petrol station Asda store have come under fire from concerned neighbours. Euro Garages, who operate the Asda Express store at the Blackford Bridge service station on Manchester Road, Bury, wish to have a round the clock licence to serve alcohol.

A licensing panel of Bury councillors will sit next week to decide on the application. Eight objections have been made against the application on the grounds that granting the application will undermine the licensingobjectives on the grounds of public safety and nuisance.

One neighbour, said: “To permit the sale of alcohol 24 hours a day from a fuel station would be irresponsible of the council in my view. “I have been a resident on Manchester Road Bury for the last 23 years and the downward spiral of the location disheartens me. “This is a residential area and there is absolutely no requirement for a store to be permitted to sell alcohol in the area. “Asda already have a huge store at Pilsworth on half a mile away. Join the Manchester Politics WhatsApp group here “The anti-social- behaviour that will come with such a decision will be extremely impactful.” Another neighbour, said: “Our property is adjacent to the garage and the additional noise and late night disruption not to mention the additional litter deposited in our garden and any additional drunkenness is simply not warranted. “I urge you to reject this application totally.” The council’s own trading standards team have also lodged an objection saying they had concerns about the impact on crime and disorder and public safety.
