Motherwell aim to get squad in shape early, ahead of Premiership top-six bid next season

Motherwell No.2 Stephen Frail says they’re working hard to get their squad in better shape ahead of a pre-season trip to the Netherlands this summer and, ultimately, a crack at the Premiership top six next term.Frail believes Motherwell have the nucleus of a strong squad that needs to be built on and believes they are a match for anyone in the Premiership on their day.Whether the budgets are bigger or smaller than last year’s remains to be seen, as ex-Netflix vice-president Erik Barmack weighs up a takeover of the Fir Park club.Frail – whose side still have four games remaining of this season in the bottom six – says he genuinely doesn’t know if or how that will affect the pursuit of new players, but the club are hard at work.“The manager and the recruitment team are already on things,” said Frail.“Your recruitment team don’t just come up on deadline day and say ‘let’s bring him in’ – there’s targets, meetings all the time, footage being watched, games being attended to bring people in.“Whether or not budgets are the same as last year I don’t know, but that’s a massive thing.“We’ll see what we can do, with one or two going out the door, and see what ones we can bring in, to freshen up a squad that we believe we have the nucleus of, and a really good squad that we work with every day, who buy in to what we’re trying to achieve.“Lots of targets have been identified, and hopefully we can bring some of them in and go to our pre-season trip to Holland in June possibly in a better state than we were in last year.“There were one or two that we knew were leaving the club, but they were with us in Holland, so we’re hoping we go there as strong as we possibly can, and start the bid for next season.“We’re hoping we can start the
