A wild animal described as invasive caused a 'brutal massacre' of a grandmother's hens - bringing to an end Greater Manchester's own 'Cluckingham Palace'.
Carol Schofield has looked after former battery hens at her garden in Stubbins, Ramsbottom, for several years. She took on five new hens as a birthday present in early August and the animals were already gaining fans among walkers who passed by Carol's home, on the banks of the River Irwell.
But Carol has been left heartbroken after four of her flock were attacked and killed by another animal on Tuesday (September 19).
It's believed the savage incident was carried out by a mink, following other incidents in the area, and with the nature of the attack seeming inconsistent with one carried out by a fox or dog.
