ok.co.ukMeghan Markle has suffered a legal blow after being denied the right to trademark 'Archetypes', the name of her award-winning podcast which launched in August 2022.The Duchess of Sussex, 41, and her team at Archewell Audio had applied to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the trademark.
But they were dealt a blow as the request was denied on the grounds of a "likelihood of confusion" due to another trademark with a similar name already being in existence.
It's the most common reason that USPTO to decline a request to trademark. The application to trademark the word was filed by Archewell Audio in March 2022, with the aim of no-one else being able to use it for services connected to podcasts, audio and visual web series, on-demand streaming media and live stage performances.
OK! has contacted Meghan's representatives for comment.The podcast launched on Spotify last summer, with Meghan enlisting the help of her high-profile tennis pal Serena Williams to feature in the first ever episode, where they talked about derogatory words to describe women.
