Medical centre forced to close as crews descend to tackle fire

A GP practice near Rochdale has been forced to close after a fire broke out. Patients at Whitworth Medical Centre, in Whitworth, are being told their appointments will be rescheduled while crews deal with a blaze at the site this morning (August 12).

Firefighters from Lancashire and Greater Manchester are working at the scene, on Market Street. The NHS medical centre will remain closed today and is expected to stay closed tomorrow (Tuesday).

Patients affected by the closure will be contacted regarding new appointments 'as soon as possible'. In a post on Facebook, a spokesperson for Whitworth Medical Centre said: "We won’t be open today and unlikely tomorrow due to fire damage at the surgery. READ MORE: 'Fobbed off' and 'not listened to'...the missed opportunities which could have prevented a tragedy "Anyone who has an appointment today and tomorrow, please do not attend.

We will reschedule everyone as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding." Crews were called out to the scene shortly before 8am today.
