MBE honour for Dunscore stalwart Colin Mitchell

Community stalwart Colin Mitchell is celebrating after receiving an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours list.The 74-year-old grandfather, who was awarded the gong for services to the community, said he feels “honoured and humbled”.He added: “It is an honour to receive an MBE.

But it is not just about me. For everything I have achieved there has always been a really good team to support me and whatever I am doing – and I am grateful to them all.”Colin moved to the region in 1984 to continue his education career which saw him serve as assistant head and then deputy head at the former Maxwelltown High School, before becoming headteacher at Dumfries High School from 1990 to 2005.His achievements in Dumfriesshire include involvement in many of aspects of life in Dunscore, where he lives with his wife, Pam.
