Manchester’s oldest library is on the lookout for a new librarian to look after its rare collection of books. Chetham’s Library is tucked inside the Chetham’s School of Music on Long Millgate in the city centre, and the building dates as far back as 1421.
It is regarded as the oldest surviving site in Manchester and the oldest free public reference library in the English-speaking world.
Been in continuous use as a library since 1653, Chetham’s features over 100,000 printed books - with more than half dating back to before 1851.
And the library is now looking for someone to look after some of its archive as part of their responsibilities as a librarian.
