Danny Ings darted into a group of United defenders to reach a loose ball and collided with Matthijs de Ligt. After being prompted by VAR's Michael Oliver to review the incident on the monitor, referee David Coote believed an aghast De Ligt had brought the former Southampton forward down in the penalty area.
After the game, Shearer and Lineker both agreed the penalty call was a ridiculous decision.
